Plan Your Visit & Spend the Day on Mt. Hood
Spend the day visiting the 1937 Steiner Log Church, Timberline Lodge, & Mt. Hood!
Here’s The Perfect Itinerary…
Joe’s Donuts
No trip to the mountain is complete without first making a stop at Joe’s Donuts in Sandy, OR. Step inside, smell the fresh baked goods, and make your choice from Apple Fritters, Cinnamon Twists, Glazed Donuts, Jelly & Cream Filled, Strudels, Danishes, Bacon Maple Bars, and of course Bear Claws. Or stop in at Mountain Moka across the street for that perfect hot drink or a delicious breakfast sandwich for the drive up the mountain.
1937 Steiner Log Church
Next up is a stop at the stunning 1937 Steiner Log Church. We’re open on the first Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as anytime via an appointment for groups of 4 or more. You may also stop by anytime between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. everyday to walk around the outside of the church. If you’re stopping in, most folks visit for 30 to 60 minutes, and oftentimes longer.
Timberline Lodge
Built in the same year at the 1937 Steiner Log Church, Timberline Lodge is one of Oregon’s most famous and treasured icons, and it’s the perfect complement to your visit to the church today. Set at the 6,000’ timberline of Mt. Hood, it welcomes visitors with a commanding presence in a lofty alpine setting, complete with the snowy summit of 11,245’ Mt. Hood towering high above.
Enjoy One of the Best Hikes to a Waterfall on Mt. Hood - Little Zigzag Falls - #795C
It’s hard to decide what is more picturesque, Little Zigzag Falls itself or the Little Zigzag Creek leading up to it. (OK…down from it.) From the trailhead, follow this wide family-friendly trail through a shady forest and along the creek for perhaps 15 minutes to find Little Zigzag Falls tumbling down as a cascade into a pool below. This is a somewhat short hike with a very nice reward, especially on a warm summer day.
Driving Directions: Travel east on Hwy 26 to Kiwanis Camp Road / Road 39, which leaves the highway on the north side. (Approx. 7 miles east of Welches) Turn here and follow Kiwanis Camp Road for a little over two miles to where it ends at the trailhead for Little Zigzag Falls. Park here and follow the obvious trail.
Have Lunch at Timberline Lodge, Government Camp, Zigzag, or Brightwood
Enjoy lunch at a number of different spots on the mountain, including at Timberline Lodge, in Government Camp, (Mt. Hood Brewing Co., Ratskeller, Huckleberry Inn, and more) Zigzag, Welches, and Brightwood. (We’re fans of the welcoming Brightwood Tavern)
